Here’s a short trailer focusing on the people we meet and the places we went while filming a documentary in Brazil last month.

Patriot Guard/Brennan Documentary Shoot

Last week we had the privilege of shooting a mini-documentary for the NRA’s new online, interactive magazine premiering this Spring. This particular story is about Brennan, a soldier from Springfield, Oregon who gave his life while in Iraq about 3 years ago. He left behind his wife, Corinna and their 3-month-old son.

Leading up to Brennan’s funeral there were reports that a group out of Kansas was going to protest at the service. This is where the Patriot Guard comes in. Taken straight from their website, the “Patriot Guard Riders is a diverse amalgamation of riders from across the nation. We have one thing in common besides motorcycles. We have an unwavering respect for those who risk their very lives for America’s freedom and security.”

Here’s a few video stills from the shoot. We’re hoping to post a quick trailer soon and will obviously have the final documentary up once it’s complete.

Timelapse at Ocean Crest | Yachats, Oregon

This past weekend I set up a couple of timelapses while at our family’s beach cabin near Yachats, Oregon. I’m no expert at these, but it was fun to take a crack at them and learn for future set ups.

There were 3 different timelapes, each set up in a different location.The first one was set up in the upstairs window of the cabin, looking north. It taken from about 1-5:30pm.

The 2nd one was set up the another upstairs window looking west. It was set up from about 5:30-6:30pm.

The final one was set up in the downstairs main window looking north. It was taken from 11:30pm to 8:30am.

Haiti

Haiti has always had a special place in my heart. My aunt and uncle (a doctor in Albany) have been going there for over 20 years as part of a medical team and through the Haiti Foundation of Hope. My parents have been multiple times, and in 2004 my wife, Susan, and I had the opportunity to go. I was able to document the trip with video and photos, along with helping out in the clinic where I could.

The trip was life-changing for both Susan and I. Our perspective was completely changed, after seeing the amount of poverty in that country. We HAVE SO MUCH here in the United States. So much that I take the little things for granted. Our time in Haiti forced us to realize how fortunate we are.

Seeing the images on TV these past couple of days – seeing places we’d been in 2004, now completed demolished – has been tough. We were glad to find out that our host while there in 2004, Pastor Delamy, and his family (who live in Port-au-Prince) are okay, but thousands of others were not so fortunate. While it’s tough to see people is so much pain, I must remember that God is in control and has a plan. Please continue to pray for the people of Haiti.

Here is a post written by my cousin Carrie, who has been to Haiti multiple times. Here’s a column that my dad wrote today about Haiti. Find ways to give to a Northwest-based organization, Haiti Foundation of Hope. Or give to the Red Cross.

The Slither Inn Reptile Rescue

While at Riverplay Park shooting some video footage for the Eugene Parks PSAs, I came across Kiah and Chad, who call themselves, ‘Reptile Rescuers.’ Their company, The Slither Inn Reptile Rescue takes in unwanted reptiles. They were at the park this day with mobs of kids around them checking out the little creatures. Here’s a couple of photos.
