This is the latest Life of Duty documentary that we had the honor of filming. It was fun to be able to film this one in our own backyard – on the Oregon coast, near Tillamook. This is the description from the Life of Duty site:

“A hero is someone who demonstrates tremendous courage, putting their own life at risk for the benefit of another. Sergeant Ed Eaton was only nineteen years old the night he truly became a hero – the night he fought off two separate groups of Viet Cong with nothing but a broken sniper rifle and the cover of the night.”

If Miletich’s name sounds familiar, it’s because he’s a former UFC World Champion fighter. He founded Miletich Fighting Systems, which has trained over 90 televised fighters and no fewer than 11 MMA world champions.

For over 15 years Miletich has trained local, state, and federal law-enforcement officers and military groups from all service branches, including special-forces groups attached to those branches. He has also written and designed defensive tactics and combatives courses for other combatives companies.

Ed Eaton lives in the quiet town on the Oregon Coast. Northwest born and raised, Ed joined Oregon National guard as a teenager, and enlisted in the army to serve in Vietnam.

Ed’s story is one of true selflessness. After their helicopter crashed, as was being surrounded by VC, Ed bravely defended himself and his injuries buddies by staving off the enemy until help could arrive. Once it did, he helped the teams board the bird, and just before take off noticed that a man was left behind.

Ed yelled to the pilot to take off, “I’m not gonna let him die alone” while he jumped from the rescue helicopter. Mike Perkins was the man left behind. Ed stayed with him and continued to fight off the enemy until another helicopter arrived.

The most amazing part of the story to me, is that Ed had to of known that by jumping from the safety of that helicopter to be next to his fallen Captain, meant almost certain death.

Above is the teaser. Look for the full documentary coming up soon.

Always the first to volunteer for the most dangerous assignments, Adam’s final act of bravery led to the ultimate sacrifice.”

Last week we had the opportunity to film an upcoming story for Life of Duty in the San Jose, California area. We met and following a number of California Fish and Game officers as well as the sheriff department in the eradication and clean up of a marijuana garden in the hills above San Jose. The experience was eye-opening to say the least.

Life of Duty crew with the Sheriff Department and Department of Fish and Game

We’ll be posting the trailer and documentary in the next few weeks, but for now, above is the news report that was filmed on one of the hikes we were on and here’s the article write-up from the Mercury News in San Jose. It gives a little insight as to the extent of the problem.

We were filming this week for Life of Duty and had the chance to capture a special operation involving a Blackhawk Pave Hawk helicopter. After seeing it land and take off a number of times, we starting thinking about fun ways to capture unique shots of the helicopter.

The landing zone happened to be a cow pasture with multiple gopher holes, so we decided to try shoving our Canon 7D and 60D cameras into a hole facing up to capture helicopter landing and taking off from a perspective we knew we couldn’t get from a manned camera.

By the end of the day, the helicopter pilot figured out what we were doing and aimed to land the ‘bird’ as close as he could to our cameras.

This is a fun, behind-the-scenes video of some of this.
